The artist’s fascination with the state of constant decay everything is in reverberates in this sculpture of smashed pottery and gold. The sculpture entitled Entropy (2018) mimics the fragility of life and its innate cycle, from conception to destruction. In essence, the spiral gold thread that marks the journey, in this case, of life, rises from the ashes and through space and time, leaving a path of “destruction” in its way. Of course, the meaning of destruction is carelessly used here as a way of expressing the creative process. De Bretagne creates the illusion that somehow the viewer is present within the fourth dimension, observing the process of beginning and end as it would appear in a dimension higher than our own.
