Zen Structure 1

Part of the Zen Fine Art collection, the work represents the materialisation of the relationship between background and form. The white stripes are formed by masking the blank canvas with tape only to be removed after the painting is completed. The stripes give definition to the shapes in the painting, bringing the golden and black shapes to life. The way they are constructed to go beyond the frame underlines a unilateral vision where the background doesn’t exist, forming a peripheral vision effect. The painting is further embellished in circle motifs that are unfinished, much like the paint smudges on the white stripes, symbolising the imperfection and fragility of a young life.
